2. Velocity And Acceleration Flashcards
What is Displacement?
Displacement is a vector quantity measurement of distance in a certian direction.
What is Instantaneous Speed?
The speed at any particular instant in time on a journey, which can be found from the gradient of the tangent to a distnace time graph at that time.
What does the gradeint of a distance - time graph tell you?
The speed
Gradient = distance / Time
V = d / t
What does the gradient of a displacement - time graph tell you?
The velocity
Gradient = displacement / time
What is the defenition of acceleration?
Rate of change in velocity
What does the gradient of a velcoity time graph represent?
The acceleration
How do you find the distance travelled on a velocity - time graph?
Finding the area
velocity x time = distance
What does it mean when a body is in equillibrium?
A body is in equillibrium if there is no resultant force or resultant moment so the accelerations is 0 .
What is the principle of moments?
A body will be in equilibrium when the the sum of clockwise moments is = the sum of anticlockwise moments.
What is centre of gravity?
An objects centre of gravity is the point here the weight of an objects appears to act on.
What is Newtons first Law of motion?
An object will remain at rest or in constnat motion unless there is an resultant force acting upon it.
What is Newtons Second Law of motion?
When an object mass in constant then F = m a
What is Newtons Third Law of motion?
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
when object A collides with object B, object B will enact the same and equal force onto force A.
What is Uniform Motion ?
Motions where acceleration is 0
What is the conservation of energy?
Energy cannot be created or destroyed but only conserved.
