2. Tissues Flashcards
What are the 4 basic tissues?
Connective tissue
Epithelial tissue
Muscle tissue
nervous tissue
What are the different types of connective tissue (draw diagram)
What are the different types of muscle tissue (draw diagram)?
What are the different types of epithelial tissue (draw a diagram)?
What is the difference between an exocrine and an endocrine gland?
Both are invaginations of the epithelium
Exocrine= remain in contact with epithelium ie goblet cells
Endocrine= lose contact with epithelium secrete into blood vessels ie thyroid gland
What is a mucous vs a serous gland?
mucous= ie trachea more slimy
serous= ie pancreas more liquid
What are the 3 types of glandular secretions?
Merocrine= breast, pinocytosis
Apocrine= armpit, pinched off
holocrine= sebaceous gland becomes the product
What is the extracellular matrix of connective tissue made up of?
Fibres: collagen, elastic, reticular
Ground substance: carbohydrates and proteins
Tissue fluid: liquid
What are the fixed cells and transient cells of connective tissue?
Fixed cells= fibroblasts (make ECM), macrophages, adipocytes (energy), mast cells
Transient= WBCs
What is adipose tissue and what is its function?
Loose connective tissue with many fat storing adipocytes
Rich blood supply
white fat= energy storage
brown fat=heat storage
