2. The Vine Growth Cycle Flashcards
What is pollination
Pollination is the process of transferring pollen grains from anther to stigma
What does germination mean;
process where a pollen grain, after landing on a receptive stigma undergoes a series of changes, including hydration, that lead to the formation of a pollen tube.
What is flowering
Flowering describes the opening of the individual flowers within an inflorescence.
What is fruit set
Fruit set is the term used to describe this transition from flower to grape.
What is self pollination
the pollen from the stamens of one flower is transferred to the stigma of the same flower, or a different flower in the same plant
what is bud fruitfulness
(the number of inflorescences that will develop from a bud)
What is xylem
type of transport tissue that transfers water and some nutrients from the roots to other parts of the vine
What is synthesis of compounds
the construction of complex chemical compounds from simpler ones
What is a Phloem
a type of transport tissue that transfers sugars from the leaves to other parts of the vine
What is polymerise
a process in which relatively small molecules combine chemically to produce a very large chainlike or network molecule
what is optimal ripeness?
the time at which the combination of the sugar, acid, tannin and aroma ripeness is at its most favourable
