2 The Human Organism Flashcards
What does the human skeleton provide:
Structural growth, blood cells (growninbonemarrow), cavities I where internal organs are held and protected )
Nervous systems,
Central nervous system (C ns) - brain and aspinal chard,
Peripheral nervous system (pns) - motor and sensory nerves.
Both use neurones to transmit information
Peripheral nervous system
Somatic nervous system - conscious functions,
Automatic nervous system - unconscious functions
What is internal respiration and metabolism, homeostasis
Cells extract energy from sugar and fat through oxidation
_generation and utilisation of energy by the body’s cells and tissues I-
Control system for maintaining internal eavilibran even with external factors e.g. Sweating
Wha does the Sensory cortex of brain do?
Includes the cerebral cortex, which make sense of the info gathered by our five senses
Sensory threshold
Stimuli must be ascertain strength to stimulate our sensory threshold
Sensory habituation
Getting used to something that you became unaware op it ( 30 second turn)
Eyes adapt to light by
Pupil dilation and is controlled by rods and cones
Proprioceptors, mechanoreceptors, pressure receptors
Sensors inside muscles, detect relay info about length and extension of each muscle.
Sensors inside tendons, allow fine control of muscle tension
Located under the skin and in muscles, sense now much pressure is exerted
