2 milestone temprature Flashcards
What is the reason for temperature zone
The sun’s rays fall on different parts of the earth unequally causing climatic patterns of the earth. Areas experiencing similar climatic condition are called temperature zones
Which temperature zone is hottest
Temperature zone closest to the equator is hottest
Which temperature zone is coldest
The temperature zone near the poles are coldest
Torrid zone covers how much percentage of the earth
40%
Which region lies between 10 degree north and 10 degree South
Equatorial region
What are polar caps
The permanently frozen area around the poles are called the polar caps
What is tundra vegetation
Due to Harsh climate it is difficult for plants to survive in frigid zone. In Northern hemisphere, moss , lichen, berry bearing trees and bushes grow during summer. They are called tundra vegetation. in the southern hemisphere very small parts that are sheltered from the wind have tundra vegetation
Vegetation in grasslands of torrid and temperate zone
Different varieties of grasses and acacia trees
Vegetation in deserts of torrid zone and temperate zone
Fleshy leaves that can store water and deep roots that can pull water from the soil example cactus
Vegetation in tropical region of torrid zone and temperate zone
Deciduous trees like oak, maple and elm that shed leaves in winter
Animals of temperate zone
Northern hemisphere- Bison, grizzly bear , elk and giant panda etc
Southern hemisphere - anteaters, llamas, alpacas, anacondas, Kangaroo, koalas and wallabies
Animal adoption includes hibernation
What is hibernation
Animals adapt to Harsh climatic conditions by burrowing themselves deep in the soil and sleep for the entire period of winter this is called hibernation the animals stock food in their stomach before going into hibernation
Vegetation in temperate zone
Grasslands- grasses and acacia trees
deserts- thorny , fleshy plant like cactus
Deciduous tree like oak, maple , elm that shed leaves in winter
Coniferous tall cone shaped trees with needle like leaves like fir, pine and others Mediterranean mixed vegetation deciduous coniferous sequoia and bushes
Climate of temperate zone
Neither too hot nor too cold.
Has four distinct seasons.
warmer near the topics in both hemispheres.
Gets cooler as we move away from the equator.
Desert climate in the arid regions.
Less rain than hot zone
Comparison of Temperate zone and fridgid zone
Temperate zone Northern hemisphere- mechanised farming ,wheat , granary of the world , working in cities
Frigid zone Northern hemisphere-coastal areas , fishing hunting, nomadic
Temperate zone Southern hemisphere- farmers, ranchers nomadic, work in city
Frigid zone Southern hemisphere- no permanent settlement , scientist and tourist ,research centre
