2. Kidney, Adrenal gland, Ureter Flashcards
Which kidney is lower than the other?
Right is lower due to presence of liver
Divisions of renal artery?
Renal artery → Segmental → Lobar → Interlobar → Arcuate → Interlobular
What 3 things make up the renal sinus/cavity?
- Renal pelvis
- Major calyces
- Minor calyces
Around how many lobes does the kidney have?
10
What is the blood supply to the ureters (divided into thirds)?
- Upper third: Renal artery branches
- Middle third: Common iliac + branches of Abdominal aorta + Gonadal arteries
- Lower third: Internal iliac branches (Vesical)
Where are the 3 constrictions of the ureter?
- Ureter meets renal pelvis
- Ureter crosses pelvic brim
- Ureter passes wall of urinary bladder
Define hydronephrosis.
Distension/enlargement of kidney due to excess urine
What is the Vesico-ureteric Reflux?
Severe case of hydronephrosis, where backflow of urine causes a swollen renal sinus to develop
Location of right and left adrenal glands?
Right: behind inferior vena cava above r. kidney
Left: behind pancreas above l. kidney
What separates adrenal glands from kidney?
Perirenal fat
Blood supply of adrenal glands?
- Inferior phrenic artery
- Abdominal aorta
- Renal artery
What 2 nerves are involved in innervation of the abdominal visceral organs?
- Splanchnic nerves
2. Celiac plexus
Function of renal papilla?
Drain urine from kidney
