2) Intro to Applied Phys (vocab) Flashcards
Volume of Training
Measurement of how much total work or training is performed
Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q)
Used to establish an individual’s fitness for activity
Metabolism
The sum of all the physical and chemical processes in an organism by which its material substance is produced, maintained, or destroyed in order to make energy
Glycogenesis
Making glycogen from glucose
Physical Activity
Any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscle contractions that causes a significant incr in REE
ATP
A high-energy phosphate molecule w/energy stored in the phosphate bonds, which is released when broken down and used to perform mechanical or metabolic work
Creatine Kinase
An enzyme that facilitates the breakdown of PC to inorganic phosphate and creatine, which results in the Pi binding with ADP to form ATP
Mobilization
The therapeutic & prescriptive application of low-intensity movement to manage acute CP dysfxn (dangling, sitting, standing, amb a few steps)
Health-Related Physical Fitness
The components of physical fitness that have a relationship w/overall health, such as cardiorespiratory fitness, body composition, muscular strength, muscular endurance, & flexibility
Laboratory Test
A sophisticated, objective test that is completed in the lab
Relative VO2max
To compare VO2max between subjects
Muscular Endurance
A muscle’s ability to repeatedly exert submax forces
Absolute VO2max
L/min
Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE)
A psycho-physiological scale used for the assessment of the individual’s psychological perception of exertion
Aerobic Metabolism
The production of ATP in the presence of O2 ( via the process of OxPhos)
Human Physiology
The study of the biological processes/fxns of living organisms
Field Test
A test that is completed in the field
VO2max
The body’s maximal ability to resynthesize ATP via aerobic respiration
