Q

Vulnerability

A

The potential ability of a system and people to cope with an event

humans may adapt by moving away or charging their behaviour

Vulnerability often linked to poverty … but not alwasy heheheheh

Q

3rd world countries vs rich countries

A

low magintude can cause greater loss

deadliest (poor counlies, less developed) vscoastliest hazards (rich counries)

WHY?? corruption…

> 90 % of disaster-related death occur in Less developed countires
75 % of economic losses occur in More eveloped countries (MDCs)

Q

Risk

A

The probability of a hazard ocuring and creating loss

ex. Drowning during an ocean crossing = same hazard, risk depends on the form of the transport….

Risk is present where hazards happen [ you can’t cope with them
