Speer’s family status?
wealthy and his childhood (up to 1914) was one of privilege and material affluence (wealthy).
why did he become architect?
His grandfather and father were both architects and whilst Speer showed great aptitude for mathematics, he followed the family tradition, becoming a qualified architect
What did the economic impact mean?
Speer began his studies locally at Karlsruhe (1923), Munich (and then transferred to elite institute after crisis (Institute of Tech in Berlin)
What style did he focus on in his architectural studies?
Neo-Classical styles, popular. → large ornate structures, projecting affluence and power
What view did Speer’s lecturer, mentor and future employer have?
had a strong belief in tradition and craftsmanship, and shared this point of view with his students. He never agreed with the Nazis, classified as midway between modernism and traditionalism. (1924).
