2. Electricity (circuit devices, series & parallel circuits) Flashcards
What is an LDR dependent on?
Light intensity
What happens to an LDR when there is bright light?
The resistance is low
What happens to an LDR when it is dark?
The resistance is high
What is linked in an LDR?
Resistance and voltage, so if one is low the other is too
Where are LDRs found?
In automatic night lights and burgalor detectors
What does the graph look like for resistance and light intensity?
What is a thermistor and what is it dependent on?
It is a temperature dependent resistor
What happens to the thermistor’s resistance in hot condtions?
The resistance is low
What happens to the thermistor’s resistance in cold condtions?
The resistance is high
What are thermistors used for?
Car engines and thermostats
What does the graph look like for resistance and temperature?
What can sensing circuits be used for?
They can be used to turn on or increase the power to components depending on the conditions that they are in
What are thermistors and LDRs both in?
Sensing circuits
How are things arranged in a sensing circuit?
- The thermistor is in series with a fan however the fixed resistor is in parallel with the fan
- The LDR is in parallel with the bulb and the fixed resistor is in series with the bulb
What happens to the current in series circuits?
It is the same throughout
