2. EIGPR Core Concepts Flashcards
What type of routing protocol is EIGRP?
Advanced Distance Vector
What does Distance Vector mean?
Distance = cost Vector = path
What is DUAL?
The Diffusing Update Algorithm that identifies network paths and provides fast convergence by using precalculated loop free backup paths
How is the topology table populated in EIGRP?
With help of the Protocol Dependant Modules
What are Protocol Dependant Modules?
They allow EIGRP to support multiple L3 protocols like IPv4/v6
What is the RTP?
Reliable Transport Protocol
What does the RTP do?
Ensures the delivery of reliable packet types and takes action when ACK are not received as expected.
What ar the RTP unreliable packets?
Hello and ACK
What will happen if an ACK is not received?
RTP will retransmit up to 16 times
What is the protocolnumber of EIGRP?
88
What are the multicast addresses of EIGRP?
224.0.0.10 - 01:00:5e:00:00:0a
FF02::A - 33:33:00:00:00:0a
How does EIGRP maintain its routes?
It creates its own Topology table and installs routes from the topology table into the routing table
What is in the EIGRP topology table?
- Network prefix
- Neighbor that advertised the prefix
- Metris from each neighbor
- Values used to calculate the metric (total delay, minimum bandwith, load, reliability)
