Indictable- most serious (crown court)- murder, manslaughter, rape
Triable either way- middle ground (mags or crown)- sexual assault theft
Summary- least serious (mags)- assault, battery, drunk and disorderly

time limit for detention of summary offence
only up to 24 hours
time limit for indictable/ either way offence
24 hours
1st extension- 36 hours
2nd- 72 (mags)
3rd- 96 (mags)
