2 - Clavicle Flashcards
Which bone is the first to form?
clavicle
Clavicle serves as the attachment for the…….
Trap, Deltoid, Pec Major, Sternohyoid, Subclavius, SCM
Clavicle provides protection for……
Subclavian artery, subclavian vein, Brachial plexus
What are the 3 true synovial shoulder joints?
AC, SC, Glenohumeral
Major motions of the SC Joint? TQ
AB/ADDUCTION (Frontal/Coronal Plane), Horizontal Flex/Extension (Horizontal/Transeverse/Axial Plane)
What are the COUPLED motions of the SC/AC joint?
Abduction-Posterior/External Rotation; ADduction- anterior/internal rotation; Horizontal flexion-Posterior glide; Horizontal extension-Anterior glide
Major motions of the AC joint?
Internal/External rotation
In an ADDUCTION SOMATIC DYSFUNCTION
The medial portion of clavicle will not move as inferior. Lateral portion will NOT abduct as far as normal.
Pt shrugs their shoulders and a clavicle stays SUPERIOR at the SC joint. Dsfxn?
An ADDucted Clavicle
In an INTERNAL rotation somatic dysfxn of the AC, the affected side does NOT….
Externally rotate as easy as the contralateral side.
In an EXTERNAL rotation somatic dysfxn of the AC, the affected side does NOT….
Internally rotate as easy as the contralateral side.
How can you get an SC Joint Sprain?
Fall on shoulder on outsrtetched arm, Fall ……..
How do you treat a mild SC joint sprain?
Ice 24-48 hrs, Analgesics, Sling 3-4 days, Return to activity 2-4 weeks.
How do you treat a moderate SC joint sprain?
Ice 24-48hrs, analgesics, FIgure 8 brace w/sling 3 weeks, Return to activity 2-4 weeks.
How do you treat a SC joint dislocation?
Reduction under anesthesia, FIgure 8 brace w/sling, Physical therapy, Return 6-8 weeks for anterior dislocation, up to 12 weeks for posterior.
In an ADDuction Somatic Dysfxn, the medial portion of the dysfunctional clavicle will not move ………, the lateral portion will not…….
Medial portion will not move INFERIOR, the lateral portion will not ABduct.
As a patient lies supine and reaches towards the sky, one clavicle does not move posterior. This clavicle is……
Stuck in HORIZONTAL EXTENSION.
In a Horizontal Extension dysfxn, the medial aspect does not……., the distal aspect does not……
Medial does not move posterior, distal aspect does not move as anterior.
What is the gold standard to radiologically dx a SC joint dislocation?
CT
A posterior clavicle dislocation could be……
Life Threatening!
Most commonly fractured portion of clavicle?
Middle third
What kind of X-ray do you get?
Weighted X-ray!
