2 - Athlete monitoring Flashcards
What is athlete monitoring?
Monitoring of the athletes response to training
Volume, intensity, stress index (training log) all refers to what?
External load
Athlete monitoring tries to quantify…?
Internal load - subjective experience and perception
People have tried to quantify internal load via what methods and why is this current discouraged by RTS?
Via external tests (hr tests, grip tests etc)
Discouraged because they are external tests that don’t seem to correlate well with internal load/fatigue
Using these methods we are not trying to predict injury we are trying to BLANK BLANK?
Assess risk
- when are we stacking the deck against ourselves, how can we mitigate the risk?
All models are BLANK some models are BLANK

All models are WRONG some models are USEFUL

What key things should you look for in a client/athlete to give you important information as to their state?
- Excited/motivated to train?
- General sense of tiredness
- General sense of energy
- General sense of soreness/stiffness/ things feeling ‘off’
Assess what is normal for the client and then note deviations from the norm for them.
When asking if someone is motivated to train, what is one big consideration with this?
Are they actually looking forward to training or in some cases, simply making themselves because they’re committed despite not feeling up to it
What are the 3 key things athlete monitoring is used for?
1) emergency break
2) feedback data for future adjustments/programs
3) Catalyst for conversations
