.2 Flashcards
What are the two causes of global Warming
The burning of fossil fuels by humans increases greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide in the atmosphere
Some scientists believe that the rise in temperature is natural and that the climate has always been in a state of change
What are the 4 effects of global warming
Ice melts - habitats lost - species decline
Droughts - famine
Immense rain - floods - house loss
Extreme weather - house loss - life loss
Animals dies out - loss of certain medication
What can we do to solve global warming individually
Turn off lights Ride bikes instead of cars Support charities LOBBY THE GOVERNMENT raise awareness
What can governments and organisations do to solve global warming
set laws to limit carbon dioxide emissions by factories
Work together to reduce energy usage
What can scientists do to solve global warming
Research into the causes and consequences of global warming to raise awareness of the drastic effects it has on our planet
What is pollution
The contamination of the environment which damages and spoils the world the majority of pollution is caused by waste
What does waste do to cause pollution
It takes up space
Spreads disease
Releases dangerous chemicals
Ruins animal habitats
What does land or soil pollution lead to
Poor plant growth
Threatens animal habitats
What does air pollution lead to
Acid rain
What does water pollution lead to
Contaminated rivers lakes oceans and reservoirs
Bad water quality for us to drink and animals to live in
Give one example for each type of pollution :
- air
- waste
- water
- land
1) carbon dioxide
2) new technology like computers
3) sewage
4) pesticides
