1st Half Flashcards
Retrieval Practice
Recalling information based only on your memory.
Spaced Practice
Spacing out studying over intervals.
Testing Effect
Long-term memory boost from using Retrieval Practices
Spacing Effect
Enduring memory boost from using Spacing Practices
Spaced Retrieval Practice
Spacing out sessions of retrieval practices: recalling information based on memory.
Successive Relearning
Repeated or successive retrieval practices of the same material with feedback.
3 Stages of Memories (CPM)
Encoding, Storage, and Retrieval.
Types of Storage (Memories)
Sensory, Short-term, Long-term.
Consolidation
The process of forming long-term memories.
Retrieval Cues
A trigger or stimulus associated with long-term memories.
Stimuli
Sources of information that could be encoded.
Encoding
The 1/3 stage in the CPM. Stimuli is reconverted into information (generally in the same form).
New stimuli is converted to sensory information/storage.
Storage
The 2/3 stage in the CPM. The sensory information or storage is converted into short-term, which evolves into long-term.
Retrieval
The 3/3 stage in the CPM. Memories from storage (sensory, short, long) are remembered or “retrieved” for use.
Neurological Model
Working memory or Hippocampus stimuli is converted to Long-term memory as neuron firing patterns in the cortical modules.
