What single chapter do we see Francis?
Chapter 9
What did Francis do?
He got mad at Scout and as a result dissed Dill and then Atticus. later on when Scout tried to make peace with Francis Francis got her riled up again on purpose. he then blamed her for things she didn’t do when the adults arrived. Scout ended up in huge trouble and got a beating from Uncle Jack because Francis said she swore. Francis doesn’t do anything good, and the only things he does are bad or neutral.
Is he justified? Why have you ranked Francis in 4th place?
He thought that Scout was mocking his interests and beliefs. He was looking forward to cooking and it was his aunt that said he should learn to cook and he takes to heart most of the things Aunt Alexandra says so he must consider her a role model. so he may have taken it as an insult to Aunt Alexandra? He only isn’t in 5th place because Mrs. Dubose is way worse considering how much more often/consistently she does it than him.
What bad stuff did Aunt Alexandra do in Chapter 9?
She was being sexist again with Scout. She told Scout that she HAD to try to be a prim and proper and cute little girl so that she may be a ray of sunshine in Atticus’ life.
What good things did Aunt Alexandra do to be in 3rd place?
She treats Francis well(wants him to cook, have his own life skills, takes his side and supports him) so there is proof that there is something good about her (morally). But with Francis, even if he did get his ideas from Aunt Alexandra he doesn’t show any evidence of doing anything good (morally), and you cant say Francis is just a child so how would he know better. It is an outside warrant to assume that Francis is immature and doesn’t know better. You don’t know enough about what he’s like.
What did Aunt Alexandra do in Chapter 13?
Aunt Alexandra constantly compares the Finch family to other inhabitants of Maycomb to make the Finch’s seem better and more refined. She even says plainly untrue things. An example of this is on page 150 where she talks about Cousin Joshua (he actually did a bunch of bad things like threatening cops and stuff). But she says that he had a pleasant character??

Jem said that they should wait till school starts again to find the owner of the Indian penny. Jem says that Indian pennies are really valuable collectibles, and proceeds to put the penny in his room. So, he shows he understands that the penny must mean the owner valued them, and says he will try to get it back to the owner. Wouldn’t it have been better to leave the penny there for the person who left it there?

Scout told Jem one of his stories(about hot steams this time) wasn’t true. He reacted in a petty way and pushes her in the tire(a game) so hard that they cant stop it. Jem screams at Scout about how she is reacting slow about being near the Radleys house and how she’s acting dumb when he was the one that got her there in that situation in the first place by pushing her too hard for petty reasons. And Scout was just as scared as he was. But its a good thing that he was scared with/for her, even if it was cowardly of him. Empathy I guess

JJem starts that Radley play. Jem also ignores Scout when she tells him that it’s a bad idea.
Even though Atticus told him to stop embarrassing the Radleys(he didn’t say he knew about the game but he did catch them playing it so even the characters knew Atticus knew), Jem still continued playing the game. Atticus clearly tells Jem he knows what Jem is doing and to stop bothering the Radleys, when he catches the kids and Jem trying to get a letter into the Radley house through the window. Despite the many warnings, later, he does another thing that could be considered bothering the Radleys. He tried to peek into Boos room and trespassed. Then, Jem doesn’t admit to doing it, and lets the adults shift the blame onto black people being the ones who trespassed even though there had been no black people near there the whole time. He says he didn’t admit it because he didn’t want to get shot by Mr. Nathan Radley and didn’t want to get a whipping form Atticus, but Nathan Radley never said he’d shoot anyone and Jem himself admitted that Atticus had never in all of Jems life punished him so why the heck would he start then????
pages 43-55
Which page did Jem passionately convince Atticus to not return the blanket Boo gave them for Boos sake?
Page 81
The beginning of which chapter is this in?
Jem tells Scout that its about time she starts acting like a girl to get her to stop trying to hang out with him. Even though before, he was always teasing her for behaving like a girl. Even though he treated being a girl as lame earlier, and in those moments when Jem accused Scout of acting like a girl, Scout was just being reasonable and opposing something he said. So Jem is contradicting himself and being silly.
Chapter 12
Which page does this happen on?
Jem says, “That doesn’t mean you hafta talk that way when you know better.” He says this to Calpurnia for you know what. but he says this even though he also uses slang even though he knows better. hafta is an example. So this means that if Jem is ok with white slang but not black slang, he considered white slang to better, probably cus its white.
