1k Motor 1&2 Motor Cortex 5 Flashcards
1
Q
How does an UMN lesion initially present? Then what?
A
paresis, areflexia –> spasticity (muscle rigidity & resistance), hyperreflexia
2
Q
What does Babinski Sign test for?
A
corticospinal influence
3
Q
What is a present Babinski Sign?
A
lack of corticospinal influence - patient’s plantar reflex shows extensor dominance: toes go up and fan out (normal plantar reflex is toes down)
4
Q
What are the signs of a UMN lesion?
A
hyperreflexia, hypertonia (spasticity), deficits of muscle groups
5
Q
How does motor strip (area 4) damage typically end up?
A
Decorticate Rigidity
6
Q
What are the signs of a LMN lesion?
A
areflexia, loss of muscle tone, fasiculations, mucle atrophy
