1b Flashcards
Types of K.E. motion
Translations
Rotations
Vibrations
Where are positive and negative charges found in regards to the nucleus?
Positive- in the nucleus
Negative- around the nucleus
Does a change in bonding change the potential energy?
Yes
What does bonding theory show changes potential energy?
- Phase changes (intermolecular bond changes)
2. reactions (intramolecular bond changes)
Factors that affect the rate of thermal energy transfer?
- Distance from thermal eq (when distance increases, thermal transfer increases(Joules/sec))
- Surface area (more =more)
Explain
W=-P(ext)🔼V
-p external multiplied by delta v
W - is the amount of work transferred
🔼V - the change in volume
P(ext) - external pressure
Which of these values is a state function?
🔼E = q+w
🔼E
How do you calculate the efficiency of something
Efficiency = transferred desired energy / energy paid for
=what you wanted / what you paid for it
Define exergy
Exergy efficiency = 100 * ( w actual / w max)
What is the difference between exergy efficiency and energy efficiency
Exergy is how close the amount of work is to the max work .
Energy efficiency is how much work you got vs how much you paid for
Define adiabatic
An adiabatic change is one where q=0. We can force a change to be a change to be adiabatic by insulting it
Equation for obtaining explosive work max
=delta h (1 - (T cold / T hot)
Two ways of increasing the temp of a gas?
- Increase p
2. Heat gas
Would Energy transferred as heat at constant pressure be the same as if you calculated delta h using delta h formations? Why or why not?
Yes because qp = delta H
4 strokes of a gasoline engine?
- Intake
- Compression
- Combustion
- Exhaust
