How did World War Two help the national party get a victory in the 1948 election?

A
  • it caused a economic bust which in turn created hatred for blacks as they were stealing the jobs.
  • fear of (swart gevaar) the black peril as more blacks began to migrate to township for work for example Sophia town began to grow the fears further increased when some blacks began to live in the urban areas for example in 1946 23% of blacks were living in the urban areas.
  • caused jan smuts to become unpopular as he declared his support for Britain when the war broke out in 1939 this was unpopular with the afrikaners as they supported the Nazis for example in 1939 ossewabrandwag was formed which was pro nazi and anti British
