Peasants were angry because of the war, there was a high rise in inflation -> food prices were higher and hunger was widespread. workers could not afford these prices and they couldn’t strike either because they could be accused of being disloyal, March 1917 (middle class revolution) -> put an end to the tsars rule, riots and chaos broke out, people were low on food and spirit, middle class people wanted the duma, but they didnt want to get rid of capitalism
Kerensky was the leader of the march revolution, Lenin was in switzerland, and Germany sent him to Russia in hope that he would cause a revolution which would take Russia out of WW1 -> once he arrived in april he declared opposition to Kerensky
July -> Bolsheviks tried to take control of the government, but failed
Early October -> Lenin ready to attack, Russia was all over the place.
October 24-25, Red guards stromed the winter palace where the government were meeting, Kerensky was sent into exile and Lenin became the leader of Russia.
Lenin made many new laws -> some were civil (womens rights, etc), but most were very communist
