What is the February Revolution?

A

The February Revolution began on the 23rd Feb, 1917, International women’s day which women in Petrograd went to protest food shortages and celebrate the day. This kickstarted a chain of protests, later in the month troop mutinies were common and the Soviets (Worker’s Council) began to form.

What is the Kornilov Affair ?

A

The Kornilov affair was a result of the July Days. Kerensky was facing opposition from landlords and generals of Russia, who believed he wasn’t strong enough to keep the Soviets & Bolsheviks under control. In August, Commander Kornilov tried to stage a revolutionary coup to overthrow Kerensky and the Prov,gov.

What is the July Days?

A

The July Days was a series of events from 3-6 July, a disorganised attempt to overthrow the Provisional Government. To the extent on how involved the Bolsheviks were in the uprising initially was unclear, soviets refused to support. Bolsheviks were arrested with Lenin and Trotsky fleeing.

A

The April Thesis was a set of directives by Lenin he released in April, 1917. They were the blueprint for the Bolsheviks, it sought the end of the Provisional Government “all power to the soviets,” confiscation of landed estates and land to be put in control of the Soviet’s in addition to the end Russia’s involvement with Germany.
