190303i Flashcards
Chain drives function how?
Transmit torque to the chain drives through a central sprocket.
Why is the chain drive preferable in a grader or skid steer application?
Because the final drive housing permits a certain amount of travel and a central pivot, acting as a walking beam system.
What is another reason for using the chain drive system?
It allows for considerable amount of ground clearance.
One more advantage of the chain drive is?
The chain drive absorbs the shock loads as the tires travel over the obstructions.
Smaller planetaries are used in articulation trucks why?
They allow for smaller components, reducing weight and allow for higher speeds.
What disadvantage when the last gear reduction is a considerable way from the final drive?
The final drive sun gear must be considerably larger for strength for use with the lower torques.
How is a chain drive typically lubricated?
Splash lubrication.
