190201e Piston, Piston Rings and Connecting Rod Service Flashcards
Why remove the cylinder ridge when removing piston from cylinder
the piston rings will catch on the ridge making it difficult to remove and possibly damage the piston and rings
excessive ring end gap could cause
blow-by (combustion gases in the crankcase)
why is ring end gap required
allow the rings to expand
worn ring grooves could cause
blow-by, oil consumption, could cause the ring to break
when installing the connecting rod bearing it is important to check;
check the alignment of the tangs and oil holes & no foreign material between the bearing and bore
piston skirt measurement should be taken midway down the skirt and ___________ to the piston pin bores.
90 degrees
full floating piston pin maybe difficult to remove at room temperature. you may have to?
heat the piston in boiling water or an oven
what should not be used to clean an aluminum piston?
hot tank
what parts of the piston should not be glass beaded?
ring grooves (aluminum ring grooves)
skirt
piston pin bores
when installing connecting rod bearings shells in the rod and cap it is important to check?
alignment of the locating lug (tang)
oil holes
excessively worn piston rings can cause?
blow-by (compression gases reaching the crankcase)
what maybe the result if a piston ring has excessive end gap?
blow-by (compression gases reaching the crankcase)
how are keystone piston ring grooves checked for reuse?
ring groove wear gauge
