What are the three levels of the role of the unconcious and what did fued compare it to?

A

He compared it to an ice burg.
- conscious level which is the tip and can be seen (our general thoughts we can see).
- precocious level which is slightly covered but can be seen ( can be thought about and brought to conscious mind).
- unconscious level which is the part of the iceberg that is completely hidden under water (trauma that we are not aware of an can effect future behaviour).

A

Fixation will occur.

24
Q

Name the advantages of the psychodynamic approach?

A
  • influence in todays society, as psycho analysis is still used today to access the conscious mind. (Mass money generated from “talking cure” suggest its benefits. - this proves that although Freud approach was odd the outcome of therapy as a way to solve unconcious problems works for many people suffering with mental health.
  • his approach supplied an alternative to medication.
25
Q

Name the disadvantages of the psychodynamic approach?

A
  • retrospective case studies, which are unique and not replicable today making it hard for case study to prove anything scientifically.
  • Fred’s case study on little Hans is built from subjective conclusions using his approach which is not falsifiable (can not be proven wrong or right).
