19. Respiratory Adaptations Flashcards
What is the partial pressure of inspired O2 at room conditions?
149.7 mmHg
What is the equation for PaO2, given PaCO2 at room conditions?
PaO2 = 149.7 mmHg (inspired O2) - PaCO2/RQ (usually .8)
What occurs as a result of a decreased V/Q ratio?
O2 drops and CO2 rises
(in the blood)
Why might we see low CACO2 levels at altitude?
The low oxygen tells the peripheral chemoreceptors to fire, telling you to breathe more. This results in lower CO2
How deep do you have to go (diving in water) for the barometric pressure to increase 1 atm?
What is the barometric pressure at 30 meters?
10 meters
4 atm (3 + 1 for the surface pressure)
What is the water vapor pressure at body temperature?
47
What is the pressure of air at sea level?
760 mmHg
