19 Equilibrium Flashcards
Homogenous equilibrium
An equilibrium in which all species have the same physical state.
Heterogeneous equilibrium.
An equilibrium in which the species making up the reactants and products have different physical states.
How do you calculate the mole fraction of a gas?
Number of moles/total number of moles in gas mixtures
What is the equation for the partial pressure of a gas?
Mole fraction x total pressure
What is the effect of temperature on K if forward reaction is exothermic?
K decreases as temperature increases. Equilibrium shifts to the left.
What is the effect of temperature on K if the forward reaction is endothermic?
K increases as temperature increases. Equilibrium shifts to the right.
Effect of changing concentration or pressure on K.
K does not change.
How does a catalyst affect equilibrium constants?
K is unaffected as catalysts do not change the equilibrium position.
