Mainly rural but it does flow through the city of carlise

experience extreme weather that can cause flooding downstream, especially in carlisle as it is low lying

higher than the national average becasue of the relief of the area

What is orographic rain?
It is produces from the lifting of moist air over a mountain
Why is lag time increased?
as the river is long and narrow
Why is lag time reduced and peak discharge increased?
as the slopes within the basin are steep
The different rock types in the river eden and there effect
igneous rock - highest ground, impermeable, slow infiiltration and a high surface runoff, reducing lag time
limestone and sandstone - permeable, fast infiltration and little surface run off increasing lag time, ground stores increase
