1.7 Organisational planning tools (HL) Flashcards
Fishbone diagram
This tool is used to determine the origin of a problem, or ‘the causes of the causes’ behind a problem. It is a visual tool that is particularly useful in brainstorming in a group setting. Once a problem is diagnosed, the fishbone diagram can lead to further discussions and suggestions that can help to evaluate potential solutions.
Decision tree
Decision trees are used to make decisions in the face of uncertainty. They assist a decision-maker in choosing the best alternative solution when one or more elements of the equation are unknown. Decision trees improve decision-making by integrating probabilities and expected ‘payoffs’ into the analysis. They are therefore a quantitative forward-looking tool.
Force field analysis
Allows the graphic representation of complex information that might otherwise be difficult to describe and debate.
