Once a problem is diagnosed, the fishbone diagram can lead to further discussions and suggestions that can help to evaluate potential solutions.

Decision trees are used to make decisions in the face of uncertainty. They assist a decision-maker in choosing the best alternative solution when one or more elements of the equation are unknown. Decision trees improve decision-making by integrating probabilities and expected ‘payoffs’ into the analysis. They are therefore a quantitative forward-looking tool.
