How does alcohol affect the nervous system?
It slows down your reactions
What are some health problems caused by obesity?
- heart disease
- high blood pressure
- type 2 diabetes
- breast, womb cancer
- bowel cancer
- gall bladder disease
What can high blood pressure lead to?
-increased chance of a heart attack, stroke or kidney disease
What long term damages can alcohol cause?
- liver disease
- kidney failure
- circulatory and heart diseases
What factors can health be affected by?
- diet
- living conditions
- genes
- lifestyle
- contact with infections
Why do some groups oppose testing on animals?
- they are so different to humans and do not react to drugs in the way that humans do
- humans do not have the right to subject any animal to experimentation
Why do scientists think it is alright to experiment with animals?
- humans should never have their lives threatened by experimental procedures
- testing on individual cells from tissues does not reflect the complexity of living organisms
- computer simulation are not accurate enough to model all the biological processes that take place in living organisms
Use of fibre in the body and problems if excess taken in:
-prevents constipation but loss of important minerals
Uses of salt in the body:
-regulation of blood volume and for muscles and nerves to function
What are the problems and benefits with aspirin?
Benefits: -helps to prevent a heart attack
-relieves head and muscle aches
Problems:
- dark urine
- increase in risk of stomach bleeding
