17. ANS Overview Flashcards
1
Q
What is ANS?
A
ANS works to maintain homeostasis through unconscious responses to physiologic changes in the body.
2
Q
How does ANS fxn?
A
ANS feedbacks between internal environ + CNS via sensory + effector (motor) neurons to maintain homeostasis.
3
Q
What happens to maintain homeostasis?
A
- Sensing changes via receptors + delivering that info via afferent path to control center (CNS)
- Control center constantly sampling receptor data + det. appropriate responses
- Using efferent path to bring about sp. response at effector or response organ (motor + muscle; hormone + glands)
4
Q
What are divisions of nervous system?
A
- NS divided into CNS + Peripheral NS
- PNS divided into somatic + autonomic
- Somatic = conscious motor fxn
- ANS divided into sympathetic + parasympathetic + enteric
- All interdependent to maintain balance, but each has diff resp. ondiff organs
- SNS = fight/flight, blood shunted to periphery, heart, brain + muscles
- PNS = rest/digest
5
Q
What is dysautonomia?
A
- Dis-regulation of ANS, when reflexes go haywire/have exaggerated responses
- Can be caused by many diseases leading to dysautonomia
