16.17.18.19 Benchmark Flashcards
Coevolution
Close ecological relationship that Cy as agents of natural selection for each other ( insects and plants)
Adaptive radiation
Process by which a single species or small group of species evolves over a relatively short time into several different forms
Behavioral isolation
Helps members of the same species identify each other as proper mates
Reproductive isolation
May live in the same place but imdidvidual properties prevent interbreeding
Temporal isolation
Keeps individuals of different species from interbreeding even if they live in the same environment
Geographic isolation
Deprecation of two populations of the same species or breeding group by a physical barrier such as mountains or oceans
Backroumd extinction
Special become extinct because of natural selection
Mass extinction
Many species become extinct I’m a short period of time
Genetic drift
Random changes in allele frequency Affects small populations
Mutations
Caused by; environmental factors
Lethal- does not survive
Beneficial- become part of the gene pool
Mechanisms for genetic change
Mutation
Genetic drift
Gene flow
Gene flow
Movement of individuals into and put of a population
Steady hill
Directional selection
