Describe the High Winds
Tropical cyclones can produce winds of over 250KM per hour.
People can be killed by flying debris. People’s homes can be destroyed.
Trees can be uprooted and blown over.
Describe the Intense Rainfall
As tropical cyclones move over the ocean they take up a large amount of water this results in a large release of rain.
Can lead to flooding, damage to property and injury. Fast-flooding can kill people.
It can affect the environment by the erosion of beaches and destruction of coastal habitats.
Describe Storm Surges
A tropical cyclone creates a large area of low pressure, which allows the sea to rise.
It can impact people eroding coastal habitants, and contaminating farmland.
It can erode beaches, damage coastal defense and flow inland.
Define the Coastal Flooding
The combination of intense rain and storm surges.
It put people and properties at risk, and can affect tourism industries and the farming.
It also can put coastal areas at severe risk of flooding.
Define the Landslides
It is the intense rainfall that affects areas of high relief as well as coastal lowlands.
It devastates the settlement at the bottom of the slopes.

Means the immediate effects of a natural (weather of tectonic) hazard, caused directly by it.
What does Secondary Impacts mean?
Means the knock-on, or indirect, effects of a weather or tectonic hazard that take place on a large timescale.
What does Response means?
Means a reaction to the tropical cyclone through;
Rescue workers searching for people trapped in rubble;
Providing food, clean water, medical care and shelter for all victims;
Repair and reconstruction of the affected area to speed up an recovery. E.g. power, drinking water and transportation.
What does Preparation means?
Means make something ready for an event. e.g. a tropical storm.

Why are some Countries Vulnerable to Tropical Cyclones?
Physical Vulnerability: as tropical cyclones form over water, coastal areas at significantly more risk of being affected by tropical cyclones than island areas.
