1.3 - Global Climate Change Today and in the Future. Flashcards
Global Climate Change Today and in the Future
Its rising the population, oil, coal, gas, and fossil fuels are non-renewable energy.
Natural Greenhouse effect
The suns radiation travels to the Earth, most of the radiation reflect off the Earth into space. Some radiation is trapped in the atmosphere by the Greenhouse gasses (e.g. carbon dioxide and methane). This is natural and has always happened, this is a main reason why here is life on Earth.
Enhanced Greenhouse effect
This is when the natural greenhouse effect is made worse by humans. More greenhouse gases are added to the atmosphere by humans (CO2 from car exhaust, factories releasing CO2, large scale farms releasing methane) this means that less solar radiation can escape because the layer of greenhouse gasses becomes thicker and the atmosphere is heated up and more than it should be (global warming).
Industry and the Greenhouse Effect
As levels of disposable income rise, increased demand for the production of consumer goods lead to industrial growth and need fore more energy, resulting in more fossil fuels being burnt.
Transport and the Greenhouse effect
With cars becoming more affordable and more people taking flights over long distances huge quantities of fuel are used. Cars are now more fights over long distances, using huge quantities of fuel. All transports relies on burning fossil fuels.
Energy and Greenhouse effect
The demand of energy is growing because of increasing population and ne technologies.
Farming and Greenhouse effect
Population growth has led to a higher demand for food production.
Enhanced Greenhouse Effect order
- The Sun sends radiation towards the Earth.
- Part of the radiation is absorbed by the Earth’s surface.
- Another part of the radiation is reflected by the Earth’s surface and escape into space.
- Human activities release greenhouse gases which trap the heat in the atmosphere.
- The heat which cannot escape into the space causes temperature in atmosphere to rises.
The consequences for people in increasing temperature.
Will change rainfall patterns leading to more drought in some places and make storms in others leading to flash flood or water storages.
Can lead to famine as crops fail.
The consequences for people in melting ice.
Will lead to rises in sea kevel which may result i coastal flooding and damage to communities.
Unstable ice can lea to difficulties when fishing to injuries and death.
Can lead to the destruction of animal habitats which people rely upon to.
