What are Ethical issues?
What would be considered right and wrong by society
Give some examples of some ethical issues in computing:
- Ensuring public safety
- Security of data
How are ethics applied in this situation?
‘Driverless cars may soon be on the roads in the UK. The designers of driverless cars have not only had to ensure the safety of passengers, but also of other drivers and pedestrians.’
Ethics apply here as a situation may occur where the car’s software has to decide who has safety priority, the passengers or other road users
How is data security affected by the recent increase in the use of technology?
Personal data is available on the internet a lot nowadays
Many hackers may use malware to try to gain access to that personal information
What is Ransomware?
Malware which encrypts a user’s files, then demands a ransom payment to decrypt them
What are Legal issues?
What’s right and wrong in the eyes of the law
Give some examples of some Legal issues in computing:
- Allowing someone to illegally share personal data
- Stealing financial information, such as credit card numbers or bank account details
- Helping to illegally copy and distribute films, television programmes and music
- Extorting information or blackmailing someone

- Users will accept a privacy agreement before using any websites/software
- Cloud computing allows users to upload personal files to their servers
- Companies may make personal details available to other website users
