1.6 Equlibria Flashcards
Define a dynamic equlibrium
An equlibrium where the forward and backward reactions are occuring at the same rate and the concentration of each reactant is constant.
State Le Chatelier’s priciple
If a system at equlibrium is disturbed, the position of equlibrium is the direction that tends to reduce the disturbance.
If the forward reaction in a dynamic equlibrium is endothermic and the temperature is lowered, what is the effect on Kc?
It will decrease as the concentration of products is lowered and concentration of reactants increase meaning the fractions is smaller.
If the forward reaction in a dynamic equlibrium is exothermic and the temperature is lowered, what is the effect on Kc?
It will increase as the concentration of products is raised and concentration of reactants falls meaning the fractions is larger.
If Kc is greater than 1, what does that mean about the concentrations of products and reactants?
There is a higher concentration of products than reactants.
