15.3 Flashcards
Linked Genes
Genes located near each other on the same chromosome that tend to be inherited together in genetic crosses.
Unlinked Genes
Genes located on different chromosomes.
Genetic Recombination
The production of offspring with a combination of traits that differ from those found in either P generation parent.
Parental Types
Offspring that are expected to inherit a phenotype that matches either of the phenotypes of the P generation.
Recombinant Types/Recombinants
Offspring with new combinations of alleles from the P generation.
What does crossing over account for?
The recombination of linked genes.
Genetic Map
An ordered list of the genetic loci along a particular chromosome.
Linkage Map
A genetic map based on recombination frequencies.
