15.5 Flashcards
Genomic Imprinting
A variation in phenotype depending on whether an allele is inherited from the male or female parent.
When does genomic imprinting occur? What does it result in?
During gamete formation and results in the silencing of a particular allele of certain genes.
What are examples of genomic imprinting?
- Prader-Willi Syndrome
- Angelman Syndrome
Imprinting
In each generation, genes are remarked by the parent in the gametes
Uniparental Disomy
Both copies of a chromosome are from one parent.
Examples of X-Linked Recessive Traits
- Ichtyosis
- Color-Blindness
- Hemophilia
Lethal Genotype
Causes death before the individual can reproduce.
What kind of gene dose might be lethal?
A double dose of a dominant allele.
Therefore, the affected individual is always a heterozygote.
