What are firewalls usually made from?
Sheet metal shields made from stainless steel or high heat resistant material
What compartments are considered fire zones?
Compartments that contain ignition sources and potential of flammable fluid leakage
What does the cowling do?
Protects and provides dynamic surface also routes cooling air
What are C duct cows?
Thrust reverser cowls
Contains all components for thrust reversing
Secured with hinge pins and can stay fitted during engine removal
What are acoustic panels used for?
Noise suppression
What does the porous faced sheeting do in an acoustic panel?
Absorbs noise and converts it to heat energy
What is the disadvantage of the acoustic panel?
Additional weight and increased friction on airflow increasing fuel consumption
What is the engine mount design for side mounted engines?
Front and rear saddle type beam connect the engine through fillets to airframe
They use swinging links and thrust trunnions
What is the engine mount designed for pylon mounted engines?
Forward engine mount to support vertical side and axle loads
After engine mounts to support vertical and side loads
What should never be done when installing tubing to the aircraft engine?
Never instal a straight length of tubing between two rigidly mounted fittings. At least one bend is required to absorb vibrations and temp changes.
What must be done as damage is found on a hydraulic line?
Replace whole line or repair if AMM applicable
What can be done to scratches or necks not deeper than 10% of wall in aluminium alloy tubing not in the heel of Bend?
Can be repaired by burnishing with hand tools
What type of hose is required to transfer synthetic oils?
Specially compounded synthetic rubber hose
What is the deflection limit for wire groups/bundles between support points?
1/2 inch
What is the lower part of the module assembly called and where does it take the fluids and why?
Drain mast
Takes fluid overboard, ensuring they don’t leak and drip into engine
