Companionate Marriage
A view of marriage as a companionship, a friendship, and a romance, rather than as a practical platform for cooperation and survival
Dating
A mate selection process in which young adults spend time with a variety of patterns before making a long-term commitment
The authority of parents was replaced with the authority of young men, who initiated and paid for dates
Family Wage
The amount necessary for a male earner to provide subsistence for his wife and children without their having to work for pay
Government also began providing economic incentives for marriage
Baby Boom
High birth rates in the US between 1946 and 1964.
Parents experienced severe economic depression and an all-consuming war following by sudden prosperity
