Why do we need food?
Your body needs food to help it grow. Food also gives you energy.
Your body cannot use the food you eat just as it is.

Which system changes food by breaking it down into tiny particles?
The digestive system
What is the process that the digestive system did call?
The process that the digestive system did is called “digestion”.
Which are the main organs of the digestive system?
The stomach and the intestines are the main organs of the digestive system.
What happened to the food when it gets into the mouth?
Your teeth check and chop up the food into smaller pieces that we can swallow. Digestive juices in saliva start digesting food.
What happened when we swallow it?
The food we swallowed is pushed down a tube called the gullet {esophagus} and into the stomach.
What happened when it reaches the stomach?
Inside the stomach the food mixes with the digestive juice that turns the food into a thick liquid similar to porridge.
What happened when it gets to the small intestines?
The small intestines break down the food even more until the food particles are small enough to move into the blood.
What happened when it gets to the large intestines?
Any undigested bits of food that your body can’t use are pushed out of the end of the intestines when you go to the toilet.
