Constitutional convention
The convention in Philadelphia, May 25 to September 17, 1787, that debated and agreed upon the Constitution of the United States.
Great Compromise
Also known as the Connecticut compromise. Created a bicameral system of congressional representation with the House of Representatives based on each state’s population and the Senate represented each state equally.
Electoral College
which created a system for electing the president by electors from each state rather than by popular vote or congressional vote
Three-fifths compromise
provided a formula for calculating a state’s enslaved population for purposes of representation in teh House and for taxation
Compromise on importation of slaves
postponed a decision about whether to ban the importation of enslaved persons until 1808
Amendment process
due to the debates around drafting the Constitution the amendment process was created in Article V. This process entailed either a two-thirds vote in both houses or a proposal from 2/3 of the state legislatures, with final ratification determined by 3/4 of states
