1.5 Hazards From Tropical Cyclones Flashcards
What can a tropical cyclone cause?
>Storm surges >High winds >Intense rainfall >Land slides >Coastal flooding
What is a storm surge?
As the tropical cyclone moves to land there is high-pressure wind underneath which forces the water to shore.
What are landslides?
When the ground is weakened on a ledge/cliff due to something like trees uprooting or coastal flooding.
What can intense rainfall cause?
> Coastal flooding
>Landslides
What can high winds cause?
> Up-rooted trees

Why would economy affect a countries vulnerability to tropical cyclones?
If a country doesn’t have the preparation or response then it can’t protect its citizens from tropical cyclones and the effects that they cause.
Why would geography affect a countries vulnerability to tropical cyclones?
If a country is landlocked then it is very unlikely to face the effects of a tropical cyclone. Also if a country is at a similar altitude to the ocean it makes it easy for water to spread and cause damage.
Why would a countries ability to contact its citizens affect vulnerability to tropical cyclones?
If a country can not contact their citizens then they will have a very hard time warning them.
