1.2 Natural Climate Change Flashcards
What is Eccentricity?
When the orbit of earth shifts from a circle to and elipse.
How long does Eccentricity take to loop?
~100,000yrs
What is Tilt?
When the angle of the Earths rotation chages from 22.1° -24.5°.
How long does Tilt take?
~41,000yrs
What is Precession?
When the season reverse through rotation of the earth.
How long does Precession take to loop?
~23,000yrs
What are causes of natural climate change?
> Meteor strikes
Volcanic eruptions
Sun spots
How do meteors and volcanic eruptions cause natural climate change?
They launch dust and debree into the atmosphere which reduces sunlight.
How do sunspots cause natural climate change?
The more there are the higher the tempature.
How can we messure climate change?
> Ice cores
Tree rings
Historical data
How do ice cores tell us about climate change?
Pollution, higher CO2 levels, and volcanic ash is all stored in ice cores which we can messure.
How do tree rings tell us about climate change?
Every ring in a tree is a year that it lived through, if a season was rainy and sunny the tree would have grown a lot but if it was the opposite it would be small, if there was a forest fire it will leave a scar.
