it may also require a certain level of experience or education. it also could be full time part time permanent or temp
compensation
pay and benefits.
pay can be in the form of a
wage : money paid to employee on hourly basis
or salary : fixed amt of pay for each week month or year
benefits : extra compensation workers receive (health and life insurance, sick leave, retirement)
retirement plans
provide employees w money after working at a comp for a certain number of years
pension plan : funded at least in part by employees
profit sharing plan : makes an annual contribution to an employees retirement fund when the company makes a profit
401k : employees set aside a percentage of funds from each paycheck to go in their 401k investment acc
job recruitment
actively looking for qualified ppl to fill a job
selecting candidants
review : application (form comps give for ppl to fill their education skills experience references) and resume (summary of academic and work history)
screening : selecting ppl by reading applications and determining who has the minimum requirements. those who do move on
interview : meeting where interviewer asks questions
testing : helps make sure candidates have the right skills and character
background check

process of verifying certain info provided by a job applicant like past and present jobs and education and maybe financial history
reference
person who comments on an applicants character and qualifications for a job
to develop employees they must be

orientation
helping new employees adjust to a company (tour, manual, orientation session,)

job rotation
moves employees to diff tasks or departments to help them gain experience and gain morale (gen level of confidence or enthusiasm felt by a person or grp of ppl)

soft : personality traits and personal abilities like social skills and language skills. they complement :
hard skills : technical requirements of a job
performance appraisal
evaluation of how well an employee is doing a job
employees are evaluated periodically abt their strengths weaknesses
promotion
gives an employee a higher level job with more authority responsibility and pay
most are merit based
seniority : status given to an employee based on rank or length of service
transfer
move to another job within a comp, usually at the same level and play
an employee may be transferred bc another dept needs them or their job in their present dept has been eliminated or if the comp moves or opens a new office
separation
leaving a comp for any reason
voluntary : employee resigns or retires and has an exit interview to pinpoint why
layoff : occurs when theres not enough work for all employees, when a comp needs to downsize
termination : breaks rules, unable to perform, doesnt get along
turnover
no of employees who leave an org and are replaced overtime
