When communication is two way with employees giving feedback to management but the manager has all authority and supervision over employees.

Some input by employees may be ignored leaving employees feeling unvalued. Time is wasted asking for input into decisions.

Communication is two way with employees having considerable input into decisions. Control is shared with employees working independently and little need for supervision.

Open communication allows employees to improve decisions and feel valued and empowered.
Employee ownership of decisions due to their involvement in determining objectives leads to higher motivation, productivity and commitment.

Very time consuming to include all employees in decision-making. Manager can lose control of decisions as employees can make changes and influence objectives.
what is laissez faire management style?
Very little communication occurs as employees are trusted to achieve objectives. Also very little direction/control by management as employees determine their own objectives.

Employees work independently and are highly motivated and satisfied as they work towards their own objectives.

Lack of direction can lead to a lack of focus on the core goals of the business.
Unsuitable for low skilled or inexperienced employees or those who are not highly self-motivated.
