According to John Locke what is the job of the government? Why is it important for the government to be limited in this job?
The job of the government is to protect private property and to secure rights. This restricts what government/rulers can do.
3 things government must do
Legislate, administer, and adjudicate
What is the “consent of the governed” ?
The government gains authority from the people who created it
When should citizens revolt against their government?
When citizens no longer give consent
What did federalists stand for when the Constitution was being ratified?
They supported the constitution ad wanted a national government for a strong and stable country
What did anti-federalists stand for when the constitution was being ratified?
They did not support the constitution, they believed it would take away rights from citizens and states, and they believed it did not protect rights and liberties
Why is the office of the presidency limited? How is it limited?
The presidency is limited so that not one person would rule the nation or use the army as a personal army. The presidency is limited by advisors and the department of defense, being bound by having to give the state of the union address and the ability to be impeached by congress.

No unreasonable seizures or searches
5th amendment
No taking of property without “just compensation” a grand jury determines if you are to go to court.

Right to a speedy and public trial by a local and impartial jury.
Must be informed of charges against oneself.
No compulsions to testify against oneself.

Trial to jury with charges exceeding $20
8th amendment
No excessive bail or or cruel or unusual punishment
9th amendment
Unlisted rights are not necessarily denied
10th amendment
Rights not denied by state and federal governments are reserved for citizens
