How employers and employees interact with each other on a day to day basis
What is Multi-skilling?
The practice of training employees so that they have the ability to do a range of tasks.
What is a flexible workforce?
Ability to match workforce skills ,size and location to business needs in order for operations to run smoothly.
What are part time employees?
Employees who are contracted to work less than the full time emloyees.
What are Temporary employees?
Employees who work for a specific amount of time.
What is homeworking?
Ability to work from home rather than travelling to work.
What is Flexible working?
Employees choose there own hours of work.
What is outsourcing ?
A businesses tasks are done by an external business.
What is dismissal?
When an employees contract is terminated due to a breach of the terms.
What is redundancy?
Employee is terminated due to the job no longer existing.
What are two the two approaches for employee representation?
1.Individual
2.Collective
What is the individual approach to employee representation?
Employee negotiates individually with management for their own interest.
What is the collective approach to employee representation?
A negotiation between employees and employers. Usually through trade unions.
What is an industrial dispute?
When employees take action to put pressure on employers like striking
Whats the main aim for trade unions?
To represent on behalf of employees and prevent industrial action.
What are work councils?
A group made up of managers and employees who meet regularly to discuss issues relating to the business and specifically issues affecting the workforce.
What is in a job description?
A document containing the task, skills and responsibilities the appointed person will be expected to carry out.
What is a person specification?
A document providing details of the ideal candidate and lists essential characteristics.
What is the three types of job training?
On-the-job
Off-the-job
Induction
What is on the job training?
Where an employee learns in the workplace from experienced employees.
What is off the job training?
Any form of education which takes place away from the workplace.
What is induction training?
Aimed at introducing new employees to a business and its procedures.
