What is urinary incontinence?
Complaint of uncontrolled leakage of urine
Bladder pressure> urethral sphincter pressure
What examinations should be carried out when investigating urinary incontinence?
BMI
Abdominal exam- palpable bladder?
Neurological exam

Vaginal exam
Lower urinary tract symptoms can be classified into storage, voiding and post micturition. What symptoms can be found in each of these categories?
Differentiate between stress, urgency, mixed incontinence and overflow incontinence.
What are the risk factors for urinary incontinence?
What investigation could be carried out when investigating urinary incontinence?
- Urine Dipstick
- Non-invasive urodynamics
- Frequency-volume chart
- Bladder diary (3 days+)
- Post-micturition residual volume - in patients with voiding dysfucntion
- Invasive urodynamics (pressure-flow studies)
- Pad test- get patient to cough whilst wearing pad
- Cytoscopy
Give examples of conservative management that can be used to treat urinary incontinence:
Contained incontinence is a management option for urinary incontinence. What is contianed incontinence?
For patients unsuitable for surgery BUT have failed conservative/medical management
How should stress urinary incontinence be managed?
What is enuresis?
Bedwetting- involuntary wetting during sleep
>2 x per week
No CNS defects
Children > 5years
Differentiate between primary and secondary eneuresis.
Outline the management of enuresis.
