1.4 - The Process of Research Design Flashcards
The two most common research approaches are
- Non-experimental or correlational designs, which assess relationships among and between variables and generally do not allow inference of a causal relationship between them.
- Experimental designs which allow inference of causal relationships between variables, such as between independent variables and dependent variables
Generally speaking, in a correlational design you are examining variables through an interpretation of their association
(e.g. direction of their association, strength of their association, and statistical significance of their relationship)
There are three different types of research:
- Descriptive research
- Exploratory research
- Explanatory/experimental research
Research requires a precise question to be generated that is testable, in other words, it must be
Doable
To conduct your research you need to have access to participants, the research needs to be _______ and you need to be able to _______________ :
ethical; competently analyse your findings
Research also needs to build on an existing __________
Knowledge base
